A popular Adelaide radio trio has been left stunned after their top-rating drive show was axed to make way for a Melbourne export.

AFL greats Andrew Jarman and Bernie Vince and cricket legend Greg Blewett were informed this week that their weekday Triple M Rush Hour drive show would wrap up at the end of the year. Speaking to The Advertiser , co-host Greg Blewett described the axing as a 'shock.

' 'It doesn't make sense to any of us,' the former Australian cricketer and Channel 7 cricket commentator said. The show will return next week and run until mid-November and it is understood it will be replaced by the Melbourne-based Rush Hour, hosted by Billy Brownless and James Brayshaw. The popular Adelaide radio trio had hosted the show since 2021 and were named number one in their timeslot in the most recent radio ratings in August.



It marked a big win for the station 104.7 Triple M Adelaide, which was named the number one overall station in Adelaide while claiming top positions for Rush Hour and the Roo, Ditts & Loz Breakfast Show. A radio insider told the Advertiser the decision was probably a 'cost cutting measure.

'Obviously our show was going great and we were rating really well but it's a management decision in regards to the business,' he said. 'Unfortunately we're the ones that have to pay the price.

The trio - household names in the Sunshine State - were unveiled to much fanfare in 2022 as the station switched to a classic hits format on the early morning show. They claimed an impressive 11.8 per cent audience share - and third place - on debut in the Queensland capital's fiercely contested breakfast radio contest.

Ratings have been in stark decline, with their show finishing a humiliating last place in the latest survey, with an alarming 4.3 per cent audience share. Greg Byrnes, Head of Content for Nine Radio, said on Friday afternoon that the network had 'decided to take a new approach to breakfast'.
