Football roundup: Minnewaska Lakers run past Montevideo Thunder Hawks, 37-0

MONTEVIDEO — There was no shortage of hands, or legs, in this case, that helped carry the Minnewaska football team to its third straight victory. Twelve players carried the ball as the Lakers ran for 418 yards and four touchdowns in a 37-0 Week 6 win over Montevideo on Friday. The Lakers move to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the Mid Northwest White District.

The Thunder Hawks drop to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the White. Minnewaska jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead. After forcing Montevideo to punt, the Lakers needed just two plays to score.



Senior Carter Meyer got the ball on a jet sweep and ran 47 yards for the touchdown. Asante Adams capped off the next drive with a 3-yard touchdown run. After Levi Johnson intercepted a Sam Knoop pass on the first play of the second quarter, the Lakers’ ensuing play was a 52-yard touchdown run by Riley Dell.

Another Minnewaska INT, this time by Miles Wildman, set up a 23-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Tristan O’Neil to put the Lakers ahead 27-0 with 10 minutes, 1 second left before halftime. Dell, a 6-foot, 215-pound junior fullback, had a Minnewaska-best 131 rushing yards on four carries. That’s an average of 32.

8 yards per attempt. Kearri Dickens had a team-best six carries for 105 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Along with the two INTs, the Lakers recovered three fumbles.

They’ve had nine takeaways over the last two games. Montevideo’s Jaxon Wagner finished with 21 rushing attempts for 70 yards and Landon Olson had 70 yards on 10 carries. Minnewaska closes out the season with two straight home games, starting with Albany at 7 p.

m. next Friday against Pierz. Mid Northwest White Minnewaska 37, Montevideo 0 Gopher Gold BBE 36, B-EV 7 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa bounced back from its first loss with a win over Browerville-Eagle Valley at Browerville.

Jack Lundberg led the seventh-ranked (Class A) Jaguars with 187 rushing yards on 12 carries. That included touchdown runs of 85 and 60 yards. Luke Illies completed 10 of 18 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns.

He connected with Josh Walstrom for an 87-yard TD in the first quarter and Brett DeRoo for a 41-yard TD in the second quarter. Ethan Mueller had a team-high 10 tackles for the Jaguars, with three tackles for loss. He also had a fumble recovery.

BBE plays Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 7 p.m. next Friday in Belgrade.

USA 29, KMS 0 Fifth-ranked (Class A) Upsala/Swanville Area shut out Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg for a road win at Murdock. Franky Meagher had four touchdown passes for the Patriots. Two went to Brody Kircher from 34 and 18 yards out.

Two more went to Jack Primus from 20 and 5 yards. Jett Olson ran for 110 yards on 23 carries for the Fighting Saints. KMS travels to Grove City to play Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at 7 p.

m. next Friday. ACGC 20, LPGE 14 Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City snapped a four-game losing streak after beating Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at Long Prairie.

The win bumps the Falcons to 2-4 overall. The Thunder are 1-5. ACGC is host to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 7 p.

m. next Friday in Grove City. WCA 44, Benson 8 West Central Area left Brock Field with a victory over host Benson.

The win boosts the Knights’ record to 5-1. The Braves drop to 1-5. Benson faces Upsala/Swanville Area at 1:30 p.

m. next Friday at Upsala. Three Rivers Blue Osakis 52, Paynesville 8 Osakis collected its first win of the season with a victory over host Paynesville.

After winning their first two games of the season, the Bulldogs have now lost four straight. Paynesville will try to bounce back as it travels to Holdingford at 7 p.m.

next Friday. South West-North LQPV 34, MACCRAY 12 A 21-point second quarter helped Lac qui Parle Valley pull away from MACCRAY for a road victory at Clara City. Up 7-6, the Eagles’ second quarter started with a Landon Weber 3-yard touchdown run.

He followed that with a 24-yard TD reception on a pass from Davis Patzer. Tygan Allpress added a defensive score with a fumble return for a touchdown to make it 28-6 at halftime. Weber ran for 101 yards on 23 carries.

Patzer completed 13 of 22 passes for 200 yards and three scores. Blake Grimsley completed 12 of 18 passes for 109 yards and ran for 44 yards and a 9-yard touchdown on 12 carries for the Wolverines. Ethan Strommer added 40 yards, including a 12-yard TD, on 12 attempts.

Matthew Olvera finished with two interceptions. LQPV hosts Minneota at 7 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd 35, Canby 0 Gunner Liebl accounted for all five of Dawson-Boyd’s touchdowns in the Blackjacks’ win over Canby at Armitage Field in Canby. Liebl completed 16 of 23 passes for 216 yards, with TD passes of 5 and 23 yards to Drew Hjelmeland. Liebl also ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns of 8, 2 and 82 yards on 11 carries.

D-B is host to MACCRAY at 7 p.m. Thursday at R.

B. Clay Field in Dawson. 9-Player South West RCW 58, BLHS 0 Renville County West cruised to a 50-0 first-half lead to blast Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at Danube.

RCW rushed 32 times for 270 yards, led by Humberto Ramirez, who gained 91 yards on 15 carries. Defensively, Ramirez made five solo and four assisted tackles, including one quarterback sack. The Jaguars also got a touchdown pass from Hampton Hebrink on a 26-yard scoring strike to John Driggs.

It was the freshman’s first varsity TD. The Mustangs rushed 41 times for 99 yards and completed 4 of 10 passes for 31 yards. RCW has its home finale at 7 p.
