After defeating Mineola in the bi-district round, the undefeated Jefferson Bulldogs (11-0, 6-0) are headed to Athens to face off against the Grandview Zebras (7-4, 4-1) on Thursday night. Last week both Jefferson and Grandview put over 50 points on their opponents. Jefferson defeated Mineola 53-24, while Grandview defeated Whitesboro 54-17.
Kamran Williams held the weight of Jefferson’s offense in their blowout win. Williams ran rushed for 269 yards and six touchdowns for majority of the scoring for the Bulldogs. Chris Love dominated on special teams with a 72-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Although the ground game was strong, the air game was evident. Although he threw for no touchdowns, Tihmyus Taylor threw for 140 yards, with receivers Love and and Travis Gray Jr bringing in 64 and 59 yards, respectively. Defensively, Kobin Tomlinson continued his great season on defense against Mineola.
He led Jefferson with 12 tackles and two for loss. Jakyrie Johnson forced a turnover with a fumble. After a slow start, Jefferson was able to get on track and completely take over the game against Mineola.
With Williams showing why he’s primed for his next step at UNLV, scoring six touchdowns, Grandview will have to be very diligent with their defensive placements to try and attempt to stop him. On the defensive end, Jefferson will need to exploit the gaps in Grandview’s offense. The Zebras are averaging only 26.
5 points per game, while the Bulldogs only give up 18 per game. This game will be a battle of which defense can hold on the most and which offense can explode the quickest. The tempo will be a great impact on which offense can make that first leap.
The show down between Jefferson and Grandview will be on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
at Athens High School..
