The Nock squad arrived at Newmains United’s Victoria Park ground on Saturday afternoon to find the home committee and their helpers loading wheelbarrows with sand and filling in soft patches on various parts of the pitch. One area of particular concern was the arc at one of the 18-yard boxes, which ended up with so much sand on it that it looked more like a long jump pit. At 1pm, an hour before kick-off, the referee officially deemed the surface unplayable, and despite the vociferous arguments of both managers, who were both willing to play, the official was not for turning.
The upshot of it all is that the competition’s organising committee have decided that the match will be played this Tuesday, November 19 – and with Newmains’ ground now twice having been deemed unfit to host the tie due to spells of bad weather, the match has been switched to Ravenscraig. Tomorrow night’s tie is set to get under way at 8pm, with a fourth round match away to Fife’s Hill of Beath Hawthorn, currently second in the East of Scotland Premier League, awaiting the winners.
