KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called on Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen to prioritise securing federal funding for infrastructure development in Sarawak instead of focusing on oil and gas issues. Yap questioned whether Chong, a former three-term assemblyman for Kota Sentosa, had forgotten Pakatan Harapan’s 14th General Election (GE14) manifesto promises — including the 20 per cent oil and gas royalties and 50 per cent tax revenue allocation for Sarawak. He lamented that Kota Sentosa still lags behind other constituencies in development and stressed the need for continuous improvements.
“It would be better for Chong to focus on securing federal funding for infrastructure and public facility upgrades instead of repeatedly bringing up oil and gas for publicity. “Where is the 20 percent royalty and the 50 percent tax revenue for Sarawak that DAP and PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) in Pakatan Harapan had promised?” asked Yap in a statement. To address some of these concerns, Yap asserted that three Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects totaling RM640,000 have been approved for the 7th Mile area.
The projects, which will be carried out by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), include upgrading the children’s playground at the 7th Mile Chamber of Commerce Kuching kindergarten for RM40,000. Additionally, RM500,000 has been allocated to convert an existing earth drain into a concrete drainage system at Lorong Sungai Tapang 4, while RM100,000 will be used to upgrade drainage at Lorong Sungai Tapang 9. “MPP is currently in the process of preparing the detailed scope of work and bill of quantities for these projects,” he said.
As such, Yap reaffirmed his commitment to assisting residents in solving their concerns and ensuring continuous development in Kota Sentosa..
