Florida did something unexpected on November 16 in their swamp: they beat LSU 27-16 . UF's victory led to one analyst doubling down on the Gators' decision to keep their head football coach Billy Napier for the season -- and even making some grossly wild predictions for next season. "This is why you don’t fire Billy Napier," George Wrighster III tweeted on Saturday, backing Florida's call not to fire Napier after they scored a huge win for the first time this season.
However, what Wrighster II predicted was the brow-raising part: "Florida will win 8+ games in 2025 and 2026 be in the SEC Championship." Since his second season with the Gators, Napier has been on the hot seat. It's been nothing but underperformance his entire tenure.
He went 6-7 in 2022 and 5-7 in 2023. This win against LSU is a major milestone if Napier has turned the page and flipped the script. The Gators' head coach won't magically change records overnight.
They'll still have a losing record this season since they've already lost five games this season. But a win against an elite team like LSU will fuel them to try and limit their losses next season. How well can Florida finish? Gators face top SEC team, bottom-feeding non-conference rival Florida has Ole Miss remaining on its schedule, which blasted Georgia in Week 11 before heading to a bye week.
That's an uphill battle, to say the least. After the Rebels, they have to face their in-state rivals, Florida State. That could be win No.
6, which would make for at least a step forward from 2023..
