Mike Norvell isn't happy with where his Florida State team is at, nor should he be. Last season, the Seminoles were a College Football Playoff contender. They had a real shot to make it had quarterback Jordan Travis not been injured.

This year? It has been an unmitigated disaster for FSU. The Seminoles are 1-9 and they're coming off a 52-3 loss to Notre Dame that made it seem as if they didn't even belong on the same field as the Fighting Irish. This is a proud program, and Norvell has fired several coaches in order to make some sort of penance to the fanbase.

Recently speaking to Robert Griffin III on the "Outta Pocket with RGIII" podcast, though, all the FSU head coach could do was apologize. “So, I mean, I apologize. I have apologized that the record is what it is, right? You know, because I’m responsible for every single thing and I own that and I will be better," Norvell said ( h/t On3 ).

"That record doesn’t have to define you right? The response will define you. Go be the best you can be. If you can do that, great things will happen.

That’s what I would encourage anybody, you know, especially this wonderful fan base I get to represent.” Norvell is saying the right things and he's got a rah-rah attitude, but none of that is going to mean anything in Tallahassee if he can't turn this thing around. Whether he can or not will mostly have to wait until 2025, but let's not forget that the Seminoles have two more games left in 2024.

He can apologize all he wants, but if FSU can't beat Charleston Southern, Norvell could lose his job. Even then, the Seminoles finish the season with a Florida team that just took down No. 22 LSU and held tough with then-No.

5 Texas the game before. Florida head coach Billy Napier has been on the hot seat all season. If he beats Norvell in the season finale, the fire from that seat should absolutely transfer over to Norvell.

FSU has to finish out 3-9 in order for any of Norvell's apologizing to mean anything. Even then, 2024 will undoubtedly be looked at as a failure for the Seminoles..
