On a misty Saturday night in Freiburg, Germany’s high flying attack led the way to a 7-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bayern Munich ’s Jamal Musiala opened the German account in the 2nd minute on a beautiful header, scoring for the third consecutive match. Thanks to a balanced team performance Germany was ahead 3-0 by the halftime whistle.
It would’ve been easy for the Germany players to rest on their laurels, but Florian Wirtz had other plans. In the 50th minute, Wirtz lined up a free kick by himself. No tricks.
No frills. Just a world class goal. “I wanted to strike it like that,” said Wirtz (via @iMiaSanMia ).
“I practiced the technique a few times in training. But I hadn’t hit it like that yet.” Despite only losing once in his previous 12 competitive matches, Wirtz had only scored once during that span.
Wirtz remains a high priority target for Bayern Munich next summer, although Bayer Leverkusen would prefer that he stay or transfer abroad.
