After a first 40 minutes that ended with a 2-2 tie, Florence’s Lady Huskies saw St. Mary’s score six second-half goals to pull away for an 8-3 win on Friday. Kaydence Martinez had a hat trick to account for all Florence’s goals.

Bayleigh Angerman contributed an assist in the loss.Since starting the season 3-1, the Lady Huskies have lost their last four matches. They will host Ellicott on Tuesday and then welcome Salida to town on Thursday.



Huskies split high-scoring doubleheader with EllicottThere was no shortage of runs when Florence traveled to Ellicott last Saturday for a doubleheader. The teams combined for 34 in the opening game of the double-dip and followed that with 14 more in the nightcap.The Huskies trailed 5-0 before getting on the board with two in the top of the third.

Ellicott extended out to an 8-2 lead with three complete, but Florence erupted with 11 runs in the fourth to grab a 13-8 advantage.The Thunderhawks chipped away with two in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth. Florence regained the lead with one in the sixth, only to see Ellicott go for six to take a 19-14 lead into the seventh.

The Huskies could only strike for one in their last at-bats and fell 19-15.Brysen Lambert and Donovan Marquez had two doubles and three RBI apiece to lead the offense. Brynnen Lambert and Moses Benham each added two RBI.

Shane Harvey and Makai Hight scored three runs apiece. As a team, the Huskies stole 15 bases, five by Hight.Harvey, Benham, and Finn Phillips combined to allow 18 earned runs in the contest.

They gave up 11 hits and 12 walks and hit four batters while striking out six.Game two saw the scoring pick right up where it ended the first game, with Florence plating three in the top of the first and Ellicott answering with two in the home half. Both teams added a run in the second, and the Huskies got another one in the fourth to take a 5-3 advantage to the fifth.

They blew things open with six in the fifth. A scoreless defensive frame ended the game at 11-3.Kam Popovich reached base three times, once on a walk and twice after getting hit by pitches.

Popovich stole two bases and scored three times. Elijah Delgado scored a pair of runs.Brysen Lambert went the distance, allowing three runs on five hits in five innings for the win.
