The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat said these evacuees were relocated from SK Kuala Muput on Jan 23 at 9pm. As of 9.15am today, the water level in Sungai Muput stands at 8.

03 metres, according to the Civil Defence Force (APM). Tatau district officer Calvin Ligong Bujang@Endawie, who is the chairman of the Tatau District Disaster Management Committee, noted that continuous rain since Jan 22 has caused increased water levels in Ulu Anap and Ulu Kakus. “This has resulted in the flooding of several roads in Batang Anap, Sungai Kakus, Sungai Muput, Ulu Sangan/Entajum, including Kampung Dagang Tatau and Kampung Baharu Tatau, making them inaccessible to vehicles,” he said.

He added several schools are also affected, namely SK Nangan Penyarai, SK Kuala Muput, SK Rumah Keseng, SK Penghulu Tayai, and SK Nanga Tau. “So far, 368 packets of food supplies have been distributed by the Bintulu Welfare Department (JKM) with assistance from staff from other relevant departments to the villagers of Rumah Ado, Rumah Degum Sungai Kakus, and Rumah Sili Sungai Muput.” He highlighted that due to difficult river routes and road closures in Ulu Anap, food supplies will be transported by air using Bomba air services.

Additionally, Calvin said a landslide has been reported in Jalan Samarakan. Meanwhile, SDMC said APM is actively monitoring flood-prone areas in five locations in Samarahan and ten areas in Matu, Mukah. “Observations indicate that water levels are decreasing,” it added.

On another note, SDMC said a total of 71 evacuees continue to stay at Dewan Datuk Aaron in Bawan Kanowit following a fire at their longhouse on Jan 15, which left 15 families homeless after Rumah Paulus Yan, Sungai Bawan was completely destroyed..
