A silver-breasted broadbill, one of the most elusive yet mesmerising birds in the region, spotted in the Fatikchhari Hazarikhil Sanctuary. Found across parts of South and Southeast Asia, including Bangladesh, these little winged beauties are a fleeting brushstroke of colour on nature's canvas, their plumage shimmering in metallic blue, black, white, and rufous-orange. Renowned as master weavers, they construct hanging, pouch-like nests from plant fibres, moss, and spider silk, which dangle from branches like delicate sacks.

Unlike many birds, silver-breasted broadbills do not fill the forest with loud, melodious songs; instead, their soft, high-pitched calls whisper through the canopy. With sharp, watchful eyes, they scan the undergrowth, darting swiftly to snatch unsuspecting insects mid-air. Though classified as "Least Concern" by the IUCN, rampant deforestation threatens their survival, casting a shadow over these enchanting flashes of colour in the wild.
