In the district, assessors visited The Red Lion, a family-run pub in High Street, Chalgrove, on November 26. The village venue was rated "good" across categories of hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety, so received the full five star rating. Another pub found to be top-rated was The Six Bells in High Street, Thame, which was rated on November 20.
A Fuller's pub and restaurant which describes itself as a "quintessential country pub", The Six Bells got five-stars for it's "very good" practices. This was a massive turn around for the pub, which was previously slammed with a this year. Also in Thame, Ruchi Takeaway in North Street, which offers a range of Bangladeshi and Indian dishes, got the full five-stars when it was rated on December 12.
In Vale of White Horse, too, more pubs and bars were given five-star ratings. The Eagle, in Eagle Lane, Watchfield, Swindon, received a "very good" result when it was rated on December 6. Finally, Narrows, a Wetherspoons pub in High Street, , was given a full score of five on November 25.
It means that of the Vale of White Horse's 110 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 70 (64%) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings. Five South Oxfordshire establishments handed five-star hygiene ratings
The Food Standards Agency has given out five more top hygiene ratings to pubs and bars in South Oxfordshire.
