Five of Bolton's favourite chippies to go to on Good Friday - as suggested by you

The Good Friday fish and chips is a classic Easter tradition. The choice of meal stems from the Christian custom of refraining from eating meat on the holy day . And it is the day many go to the chippy for their tea.

We asked our readership on Facebook where they will be getting their Good Friday fish and chips - here are five for you to consider. Mick's Chippy, Westhoughton This chip shop on Furze Avenue, off Leigh Road, has been established for a long time. Graham Roberts on Facebook said it is "100 per cent the best around".



It typically opens between 11.30am and 1.30pm, before closing and reopening between 4.

30pm and 7pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It also opens from 11.30am to 1.

30pm on Saturdays and from 4.30pm to 7pm on Tuesdays. New Bury Chippy, Farnworth This traditional English fish and chip shop is on George Street in Farnworth.

Gary Gregson, Diane Pomfret and Andrew Morris all recommended it, with Dorothy Haslam adding that it is "the best" and that she has been going there for over 60 years. Reel Fish and Chips, Deane This chippy on Deane Road offers a range of food and even opened its second branch in Oldham in recent years . It opens on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 9.30pm.

It opens from noon to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 4pm to 10pm on Sundays. Holts Riverside Chip Shop, Stoneclough Holts has been around for 21 years, offering a range of food, including gluten free options and traditional home made dishes, pies and cakes. They open from 11.

30am to 7pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, as well as between 11.30am and 3pm on Saturdays..
