Limited-time offer. Established Origin prop Shannon Mato and centre Evania Isa’ako will also miss the 2025 series after both announcing they were pregnant. This opens the door for Queensland for six players who could be in line to make their Origin debuts.
This includes Jasmine Peters, Rory Owen, Georgia Hannaway, Hayley Maddick, Jada Ferguson and Tavarna Papalii who have earnt their first Origin call-ups. Hannaway emerged as a strong five-eighth for Cronulla, debuting in 2024, earning the club’s Rookie of the Year award after a premiership winning season. Maddick and Ferguson have proved themselves as strong forces for the Brisbane Broncos, both playing for the club since 2021.
Papalii debuted for the Roosters in 2024, and despite playing just 8 games for the side, has cemented herself as the club’s halfback. Alongside the newcomers, the side will once again be captained by veteran playmaker Ali Brigginshaw and joined by Origin favourites Tamika Upton, Shenae Ciesiola, Julia Robinson and current Golden Boot winner, Tarryn Aiken. Queensland are expected to confirm their 18-player team next Thursday on day one of their training camp, while the Sky Blues are expected to announce their side this week.
