You can whip up a tasty fish dish that's ready to eat in just 15 minutes without the need of an oven.

If you’re not the biggest fan of cooking then it can be easy to fall into habits of relying on ready meals to avoid the hassle. But cooking from scratch is not only healthier, it’s also more satisfying than simply shoving a pre-packaged meal in the oven. If you’re easing into cooking then fish can be a good place to start as it generally doesn’t take much preparation and it cooks fairly quickly, by comparison to meats like steak or chicken .

You don’t have to go overly fancy to create a tasty fish dish as, let’s be honest, sometimes you can’t beat a humble plate of fish fingers . It’s possible to create something similar - and slightly more sophisticated - at home from scratch using fish fillets and breadcrumbs - and when cooked in an air fryer, the fillets will be beautifully crisp, delicious and ready to eat in just 15 minutes. Air fryers are typically quicker than cooking with an oven and can produce crisp textures with a minimal amount of oil, making them a healthier option than deep fat frying.

You can use any kind of fresh fish fillets you like, such as cod, haddock, hake or salmon, and you simply need to coat them with one tablespoon of olive or vegetable oil before adding dry breadcrumbs. Store-bought dried breadcrumbs are fine to use, or you could make your own and add in any extra spices for a kick of flavour, such as black pepper, garlic powder or paprika. Place your breadcrumbs on a plate and then gently coat each fish fillet, brushing off any excess before placing the fillets in the air fryer.

Then simply cook at 200C for 12 to 15 minutes until the fillets turn golden brown, flipping halfway through to ensure both sides are fully cooked. Then serve hot with lemon wedges and tartar sauce, with a side of chips. Little Sunny Kitchen explains: “These golden fish fillets are cooked in the air fryer until crispy and delicious.

Covered in a tasty crust, the fish remains soft and velvety from the inside and crunch on the outside. “You could use either fresh fish fillets or frozen fish fillets that are completely thawed. The fillets should not be too thin as thin strips won’t work in this recipe .

For smaller pieces of fish, try this Air Fryer fish sticks recipe . “Make sure that your air fryer basket is not overcrowded as that will prevent the fish from crisping. You might need to adjust the cooking times depending on the kind and the thickness of the fish that you’re using and the model of your air fryer.

Fish is ready when it’s easily flaked with a fork.”.
