
Norfolk State took charge early and strengthened its hold atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, defeating Coppin State 79-63 Saturday in Baltimore.NSU (19-8, 9-1 MEAC) provided one of its most balanced offenses ever, putting six players in double figures as the Spartans won their seventh consecutive contest and retained a two-game lead atop the standings.Brian Moore Jr.
had 14 points, Jalen Myers and reserve Terrance Jones scored 12 each, Kuluel Mading had 11, Christian Ings 10 and reserve Chris Fields Jr. 10. Jones grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and Ings distributed six assists.
The Eagles (4-21, 2-8) got 26 points from Derrius Ward, who hit 6 of 10 3-point tries and grabbed seven rebounds. Peter Oduro added 10 points, but Coppin State hit just 39.1% (18 of 46) from the field and fell to its third consecutive defeat.
NSU led 9-0 and 21-7, was ahead 39-22 and wasn’t threatened after the intermission..
