First-ever JP74 Sport Abbotsford Combine ready to launch

Abbotsford wrestler Jasmit Phulka helping to create new combine for youth athletes

Wrestler Jasmit Phulka has performed at his sport's highest levels and now is hoping to help spread some of that wisdom to a new generation. The first-ever JP74 Sport Abbotsford Combine is a free event for youth in Grades 6 to 12 and will allow young athletes to test their speed, power, agility and strength. The combine occurs inside the UFV Athletic Centre (1395 McKenzie Rd.

, Building E) on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m.



to 2 p.m. Athletes will be run through several training stations to test their abilities in those aforementioned categories.

Their performances in the stations will help detail their strengths and provide data on their weaknesses so they can improve. The event is being organized by Phulka, The Fitness Lab, The City of Abbotsford, Sport Abbotsford and UFV. Phulka has been one of Abbotsford's top local athletes for years and has earned a number of accolades in his sport including: 16 years on Canada’s national wrestling team, seven years on Canada’s national senior wrestling team, five-time B.

C. high School provincial medallist (two gold, two silver and one bronze), 12-time Canada nationals medallist (four gold, seven silver and one bronze), five-time Canada world team trials champion, 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medal, 2023 and 2024 Senior Pan Am championship silver (79 kilograms) and 2023 Recipient of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Pin. , which was established in 2020 and has raised more than $100,000 for local charities in four years.
