By Niakupen Pondros Bogia District in Madang Province witnessed the first National Court sitting on 5 November 2024. Justice Vergil Narokobi, the resident Judge of Madang has begun circuit to Bogia to preside over cases in the district. Justice Narokobi conducted a call over for criminal matters at the newly built Community Justice Centre and has fixed dates for trials to be heard in December 2024.

The Community Justice Centre, an initiative of the National Government through the Department of Justice and Attorney General and the Bogia District Development Authority (DDA) was officially opened last month and will be used during National Court circuits to the district. At the facility, Justice Narokobi addressed an audience that comprised of the Police, Correctional Service, Lawyers and the public. He reinforced the importance of Law and Order as a basic, foundation for development to flourish.



He also stressed on the importance of cooperation amongst all stakeholders of the Law and Justice Sector and the public for effective delivery of justice. Furthermore, the Judge emphasized that “the reason for the Court and all agencies of government including Police and Correctional Service coming to Bogia was to protect, recognize and enforce the rights of citizens to a fair and speedy trial.” Justice Narokobi will be conducting regular National Court circuits to Bogia with Justice Iova Geita, the Judge Adminisitrator of Madang National Court.

The circuit to Bogia last week for the call over saw a gathering of members of the public and the Law and Justice Sector Agencies in the province. Amongst the attendees were: Acting Assistant Registrar of Madang National Court Mr Roy Bakarum, Bogia Police Station Commander Sergeant Sawi, Bogia DDA representative Mr Augustine Kamba, Ms Alice Biko from the Probation Office, and Messrs Francis Popeu, Jethro Kase and Cornelius Momoi from Public Prosecutor’s Office and Public Solicitor’s Office respectively..
