More details have been released about the latest business opening in an up-and-coming part of Farnworth. Cotton, the indie café brand known for its top-notch coffee and baked goods is to open its doors to a brand-new café as well as a dedicated bakery to supply its growing business. Taking a spot in the heart of the new neighbourhood, Cotton’s bakery will produce fresh bread and baked treats, the company say.
The design of the new space is set to have the same 'laid-back' vibe as its other locations in Manchester, with an opening date to be confirmed. The Coffee House, which already runs a popular store in Bolton town centre, was the first business to set up at the Farnworth Green development. Chris Griffith, founder of Cotton, said: “We’ve been on an amazing journey growing Cotton, and we’re incredibly grateful for the loyal following we’ve cultivated.
Now, Farnworth Green feels like the perfect next step. This isn’t just about opening another café; it’s about investing in a community. “The bakery is a big move for us too, allowing us to craft everything from scratch and supply all our locations with freshly made goods.
We’re also buzzing to team up with Bolton Council to offer apprenticeships, helping young people take their first step into the industry.” Read more: New cafe bar set to open in mill building at Bolton industrial park Read more: Is new lakeside cafe's fry up a fresh contender for town's best full English? Beyond serving up great food, Cotton is also working with Bolton Council to launch an apprenticeship scheme, offering young locals their first step into hospitality and a baking career.
The news coincides with the launch of the last phase of 20 apartments to be released, with all of the other 80 homes snapped up within days as people queued around the block to get their hands on a cool home to rent. Tom Wilmot, joint managing director at Capital&Centric , said: “Cotton is exactly the kind of indie brand we want to see at Farnworth Green. Forward-thinking, community-focused, and creating brilliant spaces for people to spend time.
"Seeing businesses not just open here but really embed themselves into the neighbourhood is what we’re all about. The fact that Cotton is also investing in skills and opportunities for young people makes it even more special. “We’ve seen crazy demand for rentals at Farnworth Green so far, massively exceeding our expectations.
We look forward to keeping the positive vibes going and starting to see operators bring the neighbourhood to life.” Farnworth Green is intended to set a new blueprint for repurposing town centres previously dominated by retail, with plans to roll out the Neighbourhood approach to suburban communities at other brownfield sites across the UK. Farnworth Green is one of eight live construction sites for the developers who invest £3 million a week in regeneration and are continuing their expansion into new towns and cities across the UK, like Buxton, Wolverhampton, Gateshead, Sheffield, Stoke-on-Trent and Cambridge.
