Sodiq Ojuroungbe A leading pharmaceutical company, Pharmacy Plus, has unveiled Duostam, a new treatment designed to manage Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, commonly known as prostate enlargement. The treatment was unveiled during the 97th Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria Conference held in Uyo, where Prof. Ikenna Nnabugwu, highlighted the growing prevalence of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms associated with BPH.
According to Nnabugwu, approximately 20 per cent of men over the age of 40 experience LUTS/BPH, making it a significant health concern, especially in aging men. Duostam has been developed as a targeted solution to manage BPH symptoms. The treatment offers a range of benefits for patients, including relief from LUTS, improved quality of life, and slower disease progression.
Clinical studies have shown that Duostam can also reduce the risk of acute urinary retention and bleeding associated with an enlarged prostate. The Managing Director of Pharmacy Plus, Chukwuemeka Obi emphasised the company’s commitment to advancing patient care through research-driven solutions. He reassured healthcare professionals and patients that Duostam is safe and effective when used as prescribed, with clinical trials confirming its efficacy.
“This new treatment marks a significant step forward in the management of BPH, offering hope for better outcomes in patients suffering from this common condition,” he stated. According to NHS, Benign prostate enlargement is the medical term to describe an enlarged prostate, a condition that can affect how you pee (urinate). The agency noted that BPE is common in men aged over 50, adding that it is not a cancer and not usually a serious threat to health.
