The Executive Director of Cormart & Chi Farms Nigeria Limited, Dr. Johannes Flosbach has reiterated that the company remains dedicated to providing innovative solutions that support economic growth, food security, and sustainability, even as Cormart continues to pioneer advancements in Nigeria’s cold chain industry. Flosbach, says Cormart Nigeria Limited, a supplier of chemical and food raw materials and a member of Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group, is transforming Nigeria’s cold chain infrastructure with the local production of high-quality sandwich panels.

The innovative panels, according to him, designed for the construction of cold rooms, will play a crucial role in combating post-harvest losses and food preservation challenges across the country. Built with steel sheets and Polyurethane Foam (PU) cores for superior insulation, he said Cormart’s sandwich panels ensure optimal temperature control for perishable goods such as agricultural produce, frozen foods, and pharmaceuticals. He said that the initiative aligns with national efforts to enhance food security and reduce Nigeria’s estimated 45% agricultural produce loss due to inadequate storage.

“The ability to store perishable goods efficiently is a critical turning point for Nigeria’s food security and economic growth. By producing high-quality sandwich panels locally, we are making the construction of cold storage more accessible, affordable, and tailored to the needs of businesses across agriculture, food processing, and pharmaceuticals” Speaking further he said that Cormart’s commitment to quality is further reinforced through its partnership with Big Dutchman, a global leader in agricultural equipment, stressing that the collaboration ensures that the locally manufactured sandwich panels meet international standards while being tailored to Nigeria’s unique storage needs. He pointed out that with Nigeria’s cold storage deficit representing an estimated N160 billion market opportunity, Cormart is stepping up to address this challenge.

He said that the company has also expanded its cold storage facility to 3,000 metric tons, reinforcing its dedication to bridging the gap in food preservation infrastructure. Meanwhile, with Nigeria experiencing significant post-harvest losses due to inadequate storage solutions, Cormart Nigeria Limited, is set to commission its state-of-the-art cold storage facility designed to tackle food wastage, preserve perishable goods, and enhance pharmaceutical storage across Nigeria. The facility provides a 3,000 metric tonnes total storage capacity for frozen and temperature-sensitive products, built using sandwich panel technology with Polyurethane Foam (PU) insulation, it ensures optimal cooling efficiency and extended shelf life for agricultural produce, dairy products, processed foods, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines.

Martin Middernacht, Managing Director of Cormart and Chi Farms Nigeria Limited, while speaking emphasised the company’s commitment to bridging the gap in Nigeria’s cold chain storage infrastructure. “This facility is a game-changer for Nigeria’s food and pharmaceutical industries. Beyond just storage, it provides a lifeline for farmers, food processors and businesses, ensuring that produce reach markets in peak condition, reducing waste, and ultimately improving incomes.

“By strengthening cold chain infrastructure, we are not only supporting urban markets but also enabling rural communities to participate more effectively in the value chain,” Middernacht said. He said that as part of TGI Group’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and value chain enhancement, Cormart’s latest innovation will strengthen Nigeria’s evolving cold chain industry, ensuring businesses have reliable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective storage solutions..
