Nearby residents can open their windows and doors once more, a fire service spokesperson says.

Firefighters remain at the scene of a blaze at a waste management site after a fire broke out in a lorry. Suffolk Fire and Rescue said it was called at about 17:35 BST on Friday to the Valencia Waste Management site, off Bramford Road, Great Blakenham, near Ipswich. Two fire engines, plus an off-road Unimog and water carrier attended and worked to prevent the spread of the fire.

A spokesperson said smoke levels had now reduced and nearby residents could open doors and windows again. One crew remained on site overnight and progress had been made to try and extinguish the fire, the fire service said. It said the cause of the fire was not yet known and no casualties had been reported.

The lorry had been repositioned to allow better access, the spokesperson added. Follow Suffolk news on BBC Sounds , Facebook , Instagram and X . Related internet links.
