
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma City Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at Summerwood Apartments on Southwest 62nd and Western early Saturday morning.Summerwood Apartments courtesy KFORNeighbors tell News 4 they awoke to sirens and bright lights around 2:00a.m.
"I was asleep and I got up to get a drink of water and all these lights were going off," said Sandra Bourbonnais.Sandra Bourbonnais lives in the complex and said she saw about five fire trucks on the property.Bourbonnais has been a resident at the Summerwood Apartments for five years and said she's never seen an incident like this happen.
OSDE looking to buy Bible lessons for Oklahoma elementary students"A neighbor ran down and he told me that it was apartment seven," she said.That apartment, Bourbonnais said is home to a woman who is an amputee. "I saw the gentleman carrying her from her house," Bourbonnais said.
Firefighters took her to a local hospital.Bourbonnais said she knew the woman very well and had just spoken to her days before the fire."We just laughed about things and stuff.
I told her, I said, you take care of yourself because I worry about you."Bourbonnais also said, "It really hurt me because she we talked about stuff like that. You know what she would do if something happened? If her apartment caught on fire, and she's a good person, you know?"The cause of the fire is under investigation.
However, this week, fire officials have battled multiple residential fires and are emphasizing safety with inside heaters."I started turning off my heaters when I go to sleep," said Bourbonnais.Fire officials say the woman rescued is expected to be ok.
Surrounding neighbors were safely evacuated and not hurt..
