Fire service issues statement after vehicle fire on motorway

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were called to put out a fire on the M61 on today (Sunday, April 13), which caused delays for drivers.

Emergency services were called to the M61 after a car set on fire early evening. Traffic was held for a short while, causing congestion in the area. Just after 5pm, two fire enginges were called to the M61 southbound, between J6 and J5 near Horwich, where a vehicle was on fire.

Using two hose reels, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire, sating at the scene for 40 minutes. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed that no injuries were suffered. A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At around 5.
