Southern Tablelands RFS zone manager, George Shepherd, said a rear brick guesthouse, a carport and several skilion-type sheds were alight when crews arrived.

The carport and timber and iron-roofed sheds were destroyed while the studio apartment sustained "major damage." A car in the carport was also destroyed and another partially damaged. The male owner also lost lawnmowers, other equipment and items stored in the shed.

The Goulburn Post understands the rear apartment was relatively new and recently refurbished. The main house, which sits within an established garden, wasn't damaged. The village's former Catholic manse is part of the property but is undamaged.

Neighbours reported hearing an explosion beforehand. Mr Shepherd said this could have been a gas bottle. Two RFS crews each from Laggan and Crookwell and the latter's bulk water carrier attended the blaze.

They brought the fire under control within 45 minutes and stayed onsite until 1am Wednesday, September 18. Mr Shepherd said the fire's cause was still under investigation but wasn't deemed suspicious. Police and ambulance also attended as a precaution.

The owner wasn't injured. Share Facebook Twitter Whatsapp Email Copy Louise Thrower Senior journalist If you have a story to tell, drop me a line at louise.thrower@austcommunitymedia.
