Fire destroys 40 labourer sheds near Nagawara in Bengaluru, none hurt

Bengaluru: An accidental fire broke out Saturday evening in a cluster of labourer sheds in Veerannapalya near Nagawara, North Bengaluru, gutting over 40 out of 50 makeshift sheds of the labourers. There were no casualties, according to fire and emergency services personnel. The blaze erupted between 7.

45pm and 8pm in one shed housing construction labourers from districts across Kalyana Karnataka region and various north Indian states. These sheds were erected on vacant land adjacent to a private school on Veerannapalya Main Road. Officials from Govindapura police station said the fire started in one shed and it rapidly spread to others due to their close proximity.



Most residents managed to escape before the flames intensified. Eyewitness Darshan said: "I was sitting with my friends when we saw smoke coming from the sheds. We rushed and tried to douse the flames using a water motor from a nearby graveyard, but when the fire continued to spread, I alerted fire services.

" Water was sourced from a nearby apartment and local tankers were called in to support the operation. Firefighters responded swiftly, deploying two water bowsers and a tanker. The fire was brought under control by 9pm.

Govindapura police have registered a case. An officer said: "We are yet to determine how the fire started. Probe is on.

".
