ISLAMABAD - Fire broke out on Friday at a luxury hotel in Islamabad’s Red Zone area with no loss of life reported. Notably, the teams participating in the six-team Pakistan Super League (PSL) tournament will partially stay at Serena Hotel Islamabad. Under the accommodation arrangements for the high-profile event, the hotel will host the teams when playing at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Lahore, Karachi, and Multan are the other venues for the PSL tournament. According to the sources, the Capital Development Authority fire brigade reached the hotel as soon as they received the information about the blaze. They said that the fire started in the cooling system on the sixth floor of the hotel building.
The fire was extinguished before it could spread to the interior of the hotel. According to the CDA Director Emergency, Zafar Iqbal, six firefighting vehicles and 50 firefighters participated in the operation to extinguish the fire. The fire was put out within half an hour, he added.

Foreign players from the PSL X teams are currently staying at the hotel. Thick smoke billowing into the sky was seen which raised immediate concerns in the capital’s high-security zone, home to the luxury hotel frequented by diplomats and dignitaries.
An X post featuring the smoke rising near the hotel, initially captioned “Islamabad Serena Hotel Under fire,” though officials clarified it was not an attack. The surrounding area of the hotel was immediately cordoned off, disrupting traffic. Serena’s statement The hotel management, in a statement, said that a small fire broke out earlier on Friday in the cooling tower area of the hotel during routine maintenance activity.
