The football finance expert admits that the importance of the Friedkin takeover has created green shoots of progress, but there is still plenty of time to go.“We’re looking at the 2024 figures, they’re the most recent ones,” he exclusively told Goodison News.“But, in that case, there is still a chunky loss, £53million, but it was £89m the year before and of course, we know the PSR situation that we’ve spoken about at length, so there has been some trimming of the expenses in general, but it’s still a £53m loss.

“If you look at the importance of the takeover, in context, there’s a couple of things that have strengthened the balance sheet and will continue to do so moving forward, one of those is the valuation of the new stadium, which gives you a decent asset value before that starts to depreciate and then the debt-to-equity swap that the new owners put in. “The way that was dealt with meant that some of the outstanding liability was converted to equity, and that’s given a huge boost to the club and a good footing moving forward in terms of the balance sheet and the equity to push on. “It does show the importance of the takeover, especially from the balance sheet side of things, and the new stadium, but it’s still a sizable loss.

“It’s a three-to-five year turnaround to get out of that mess that they’ve been in, and these are little green shoots of recovery, but there is still a way to go.”Moyes will hope Everton can say goodbye to Goodison in style (Credit: Imago)David Moyes kickstarts new era early at EvertonBefore Moyes returned to Merseyside, it looked as though there was a nervous wait under Sean Dyche to try and secure Premier League football next season. The Scotsman has turned that around and has all but mathematically confirmed that already, only losing two of his 12 Premier League games.
