Fiji’s preparations for COP29 are in full swing, with a technical working group coordinating key priorities ahead of the global climate summit. The group, led by Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, is focusing on critical areas like climate finance, loss and damage, mitigation, adaptation, and ocean conservation. The Fijian delegation is set to head to Baku, Azerbaijan, in November to negotiate on these priority issues.
In another move, Cabinet has approved Phase 2 of Fiji’s partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the Governance for Resilient Development in the Pacific (Gov4Res) Project. Running until 2026, this initiative aims to strengthen Fiji’s governance frameworks and boost the capacity of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to tackle resilience challenges..
