OLIVER PAIPOONGE – The Kam River Fighting Walleye made a winner out of Larry Wintoneak in his return to the Superior International Junior Hockey League. Callum Halls scored twice and Zach Baumann picked up three assists to help the Walleye double up the visiting Ironwood Lumberjacks 6-3 on Friday night. Evan Lachimea, Jett Mintenko, Amar Powar and Easton Debray also scored for Kam River, who won for a third straight outing, in Wintoneak’s Fighting Walleye debut.
Marshall Thomas, Cooper Malkowski and Matteo Salvatore, had the Lumberjacks goals. Ashton Sadauskas made 22 saves to pick up the win in nets for the Fighting Walleye. Mathias Anderson, chased after giving up four goals on 30 shots, took the loss.
Kam River opened a 4-0 lead by the 6:34 mark of the second, but the Lumberjacks stormed back with a quick pair. The Walleye led 5-2 after two before Matteo Salvatore cut the lead to 5-3 with 7:16 remaining in regulation. Sioux Lookout 4, Fort Frances 3 : Brodie Woods scored 2:40 into overtime to lift the Bombers past the surging Lakers.
Dryden 7, Kenora 1 : The Ice Dogs regained a share of first place with a one-sided win over Kenora. Max Roby fired a hat trick and Carson Device picked up four assists. Kellan Mooney made 18 saves to earn the win between the pipes for Dryden.
Hudson Favreau had the only goal for Kenora..
