ISLAMABAD - The federal government on Friday appointed a Grade-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan Riffat Mukhtar as new Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Meanwhile, another PSP officer of Grade-20 Waqar-ud-Din Syed is appointed as Director General National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. Riffat prior to his new appointment was serving as Inspector General of the National Highway and Motorway Police while Syed was working in Federal Investigation Agency.
The post of DG FIA fell vacant after the removal of Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir in January and there was no regular chief of the anti graft body. The Interior Ministry’s move to change the FIA DG has become a mystery as a notification to assign Abdul Khaliq Sheikh the look-after charge was withdrawn immediately after it was released. CM Bugti directs to complete public welfare projects soon Abdul Khaliq Sheikh is the National Police Bureau DG and a Grade-21 officer of the Police Service.
Additional FIA DG Jan Muhammad will continue to perform duties as the FIA DG. He was given the look-after charge on 29 January. It may be recalled that on January 29, regular FIA DG Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir was transferred and made an OSD and no permanent appointment has been made to the post for the last two months.
