Pune: Eight bottles containing a fetus and human body parts were found on Tuesday in a garbage bin in Daund, about 82km from the city. "Prima facie, contents in these bottles appeared to be preserved study samples or bio-medical waste and may have been casually disposed of by some lab or medical facility. However, disposal in such a manner is not allowed and shows negligence on the part of the person(s) who left the bottles in the garbage bin," superintendent of police (Pune Rural) Pankaj Deshmukh told TOI.
A case for offences under sections 89 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), 90 (death caused by act done with intent to cause miscarriage), 271 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 272 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered with the Daund police. Deputy superintendent of police Bapurao Dadas of the Pune Rural police told TOI that the residents of the area informed the police control room about a box containing plastic jars in which a fetus and some body parts were stuffed. The residents told the police that the box was found near a canal at the Jijamatanagar area in Daund.
"We found a male fetus in a container. The other containers had some body parts, including intestines and cancerous tissues," Dadas said. He said it looked like tissues of patients suffering from severe diseases like cancer were kept in the plastic bottles.
"The medical authorities have examined these parts. We only sent the fetus for post-mortem," Dadas said. He said the police had started the investigations.
"We will be conducting inquiries in local hospitals," Dadas said.
