Father, son booked for grabbing 20,000 sq m land

Surat: A case was registered against a father and son for illegally occupying land valued at Rs 8 crore in Vaktana village of Choryasi taluka. The duo allegedly seized 20,032 sq m of land from the complainant, leading to a case being filed with the District Land Grabbing Committee. Following the committee's directive, Sachin police charged Geerendra Shah and his son Nilesh Shah under the Gujarat Land Grabbing Prohibition Act.

The complainant, Jignesh Khant (43), purchased 20,032 sq m of land in Vaktana village, block number 240, with city survey number NA240. In Nov 2023, Khant acquired the land from farmer Raghu Rathod. The property transfer was completed in Feb 2024 through a registered sales deed, for which Khant paid Rs 8.



01 crore to Rathod. Khant intended to develop a Kashwi Co-operative Housing Society. When he visited the site in Sept 2024 to measure the plots, he discovered Shah and 10 others had occupied the property.

Shah asserted that he and his son owned the land. Upon investigation, Khant discovered counterfeit sale agreements under the names of Shah and his son Nilesh. The accused had also installed a warning board on Khant's property.

Subsequently, Khant submitted a land grabbing complaint to the Surat collector, who chairs the committee handling land grabbing matters. The committee instructed the police to register a case against the accused, following which Sachin police filed charges against the father-son pair..
