Farhan Akhtar used to be married to Adhuna Bhabani with whom he has two daughters, Akira and Shakya. Although Farhan shares a close bond with his daughters, he feels a massive guilt towards them for the divorce. He recently appeared on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast with his wife Shibani Dandekar and said that his divorce must not have been easy for his daughters.
Farhan said that his daughters believed that his relationship with Adhuna was “solid and perfect” until it got “fractured”. He said that while his daughters have had some resentment about the marriage ending, he is hopeful that they will find peace in time. “I feel tremendously guilty towards them when Aduna and I are divorced because it had nothing to do with them.
So they are the kind of like collateral damage in some emotional way,” Farhan said. Farhan connected it to how he himself is a child of divorce. Speaking to Pinkvilla earlier, Farhan spoke about breaking the news of his divorce to his daughters.
Farhan said, “Nothing is easy. Anything you tell your child which you think your child doesn’t want to hear is never going to be easy. The thing that your child expects you and by you doing it, you will realise that this is what you expect from them.
If you can be honest with your child, they are not dumb or stupid.” The actor added, “They understand way more than you and me can imagine. They have a sense of an energy, of how their parents are feeling.
As long as you don’t lie to them and you feel ‘it’s okay, I have told them, they can now do whatever’, things will come around. Eventually, a child will understand why you have done what you have done. Maybe not at the moment but you just have to be honest with them and in turn, they will be honest with you.
” Farhan and Adhuna got married in 2000 after dating for three years. However, after 15 years of marriage, they called it quits in 2016. Farhan Akhtar is now married to Shibani Dandekar, whom he also dated for three years.
