DETROIT LAKES — Adrian Jay Hawkman, 40, of Fargo, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony check forgery.According to court records, on May 3, 2024, an officer with the Detroit Lakes Police Department was dispatched on a report of a fraudulent check being cashed at the American National Bank in Detroit Lakes.The officer spoke to the manager of the bank, J.
K., who stated that a man came in on May 2, around 4:30 p.m.
, and cashed a $3,868.41 check, providing North Dakota identification.Bank staff had concerns about the check due to the man having his hood up and appearing to conceal his face.
J.K. then contacted the bank’s deposit operation team, who determined that the check was forged.
This was due to the check numbers on the check never actually being issued.They then contacted the business owners of the checks, who stated that they had never written out the check to that party.The officer received a copy of the North Dakota ID, which listed the name of Adrian Jay Hawkman.
J.K. stated that the photo on the ID matched the individual who cashed the check.
Police ran the operator license number through the National Crime Information Center, and it was confirmed as a valid ID.On March 5, Becker County District Judge Gretchen Thilmony sentenced Hawkman to 15 months in prison at St. Cloud, stayed five years.
He was ordered to serve 48 days in jail, with credit for 48 days served, and was ordered to pay $3,868.41 in restitution, plus a $1,000 fine and $160 in court fees.He was placed on supervised probation for five years and must discuss his budget and finances with his probation agent twice a year.
He must not drink or use nonprescribed drugs, and was ordered to complete cognitive skill training and comply with cognitive behavioral interventions and programming as directed by his probation officer.Callaway woman accused of DWI, felony fleeingTerese Renae Madigan, 38, of Callaway, has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony fleeing peace office in a motor vehicle and gross misdemeanor DWI.According to court records, on Feb.
16, a Becker County deputy was dispatched to an area north of Detroit Lakes on Highway 59 on a report of a 911 hang-up call involving Madigan.Dispatch informed him the 911 caller was near 270th Street and Highway 59, and as the deputy approached that area, he saw a pickup truck associated with Madigan going south on Highway 59.The deputy then activated his emergency lights while behind the pickup as he believed it may have been involved in the 911 call.
The vehicle kept going and turned right onto County Road 106, continuing on until coming to a stop west of the railroad tracks.The deputy got out of his squad car and yelled at the driver to stop. The driver then reversed the vehicle and drove toward the deputy’s squad car, coming to a stop after driving around the squad car.
The driver was Madigan, and the deputy observed that she smelled strongly of alcohol, and had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. A preliminary breath test showed a result of 0.189 BAC and she was transported to the Becker County Jail.
On Feb. 19, she posted $300 cash bail and was released on standard conditions.]]>.
