SEREMBAN: A family of five faced a terrifying ordeal when their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) was swept away by strong currents on Jalan Bukit Rokan, Gemencheh, near here, early this morning. Gemencheh Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Norfaizal Ahmad, said the group, aged between four and their 40s, was travelling from Jelai to Bukit Rokan when the incident occurred. They were rescued after authorities received a public alert at midnight.

"Passers-by saw the father pushing the car and tried to help but were unable to due to the strong and deep currents. We rescued four family members, including the couple’s three children, who were stranded on top of the car at around 3am. "The father had been swept further into the water by then, but the team managed to save him nearly two hours later.

All victims were taken to a nearby health clinic for further treatment," he told Bernama on Friday (Nov 29). He added that the rescue operation was challenging due to the deep and fast-moving water current. The team had to retreat and take a safer route to locate the vehicle swept away by the currents.
