Dorchester Heritage Center Board of Trustees President and Chair Phyllis Hughes addressed Summerville Town Council Thursday, Sept. 12, about the Wall That Heals and asked for assistance locating family and friends of servicemen from Summerville who were killed in action. The Wall That Heals is a traveling replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.

C. “Of 88 applications, the Dorchester Heritage Center was chosen as one of 31, so we're very proud to host it,” Hughes said. “When it arrives in our county, it will be escorted down from our end of the county.

The morning of Oct. 16 is when the wall will be erected.” Hughes said some cadets are coming from The Citadel to help with putting up the wall, but she is searching for family and friends of those from Summerville killed in action.

“We need family or friends who would like to be there on the 16th when the panel comes out of the truck,” Hughes said. “They will have the opportunity to walk beside it, behind it, or even help carry it to where it will be placed on the wall.” The names of 17 people from Dorchester County are on the wall, Hughes said.
