The 2010 open-world spin-off was developed by Obsidian and published by Bethesda and fans have been asking for a follow-up ever since.
The game’s main narrative was written by John Gonzalez, who also created a number of fan-favourite characters including Robert House, Benny, Ricky and Stella. However, Gonzales left Obsidian shortly after the game was released and went on to work at WB Games and Smilegate Barcelona. He was also narrative director for Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.
In a new post on Linkedin though, it seems Gonzalez is back at Obsidian. “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Creative Director at Obsidian Entertainment,” he wrote on the employment-focused social media site. “Back to Obsidian for exciting times,” he added to his employment history.
Wanting to get ahead of any rumors though, he also wrote: “No, it’s not Fallout: New Vegas 2 .” The studio is currently gearing up to release Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 , but it’s unlikely Gonzalez will have much involvement with either of those games due to their 2025 release dates. Some fans think the “exciting” new project is actually a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas and Gonzalez is just trying to throw people off the scent though.
In 2022, it was reported Microsoft were in early talks with Obsidian for a sequel and last year, lead developer Josh Sawyer said he’d be up for making a new Fallout game. “I love the Fallout IP,” Sawyer said. “I think there’s still a ton of stories that can be told in there and questions that can be asked about.

” “I think that with any IP, especially one I’ve worked with before, the question is, what do I want to do this time that I wasn’t able to do last time,” he added. “And if those constraints are just really constraining then it’s not very appealing, because who wants to work on something where the one thing they want to explore is not possible to explore?” Fallout: New Vegas is set to get a whole new generation of fans with the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout taking heavy inspiration from the game. All three protagonists ended the first season heading for Vegas and it’s been confirmed that the in-game ruler of New Vegas, Robert House, will be involved .
