We now know that Virtuos’ Elder Scrolls Oblivion remaster is 100% real, and it’s allegedly set to shadow drop on Xbox Series, PS5 and PC on April 21st. However, as per previous leaks, Oblivion isn’t the only Bethesda RPG receiving a massive facelift with a true Fallout 3 Remaster also pegged for release.Following the news of the Oblivion Remaster’s leaked screenshots, renowned leaker NateTheHate explained that the Fallout 3 Remaster is still actively in development.
However, we shouldn’t expect to see the game anytime soon.Fallout 3 Remaster is still a ways offIn a conversation on Twitter, the leaker was asked whether the game “is still happening” and “when it could be announced or released”. While the leaker didn’t give fans any specific dates, they claimed that “it’ll be a while before we see it”.
"[It's] planned but won't be for a while," they said in another reply. The Oblivion Remaster and Fallout 3 remaster were both originally leaked back in 2023 in classified documents Xbox filed with the FTC for its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Back then, the Oblivion Remaster was scheduled to release sometime in FY22 with the Fallout 3 project planned to release two years later in FY24.
Obviously, it has taken significantly longer than internally expected for the Oblivion Remaster to release with an almost two-year delay in release. With this in mind, we could possibly see the Fallout 3 Remaster release sometime in 2026, or even later in 2027.Bethesda's plans have seen some major delays, so expect a couple of years until we can play the Fallout 3 Remaster.
Nevertheless, it does make a lot of sense to remaster the third Fallout game. With Oblivion’s new remaster touting shiny new graphics and overhauled mechanics, Fallout 3 could definitely benefit from updated enemy AI, better gunplay and a massive amount of bug fixing.Considering how busted the game has been on PC for almost two decades, a proper redux makes a lot of sense.
At least with this game there’s no colour to sap out of it.For more Fallout coverage, read about how Fallout 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 seems inevitable. Additionally, read out interview with Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer Bruce Nesmith on the state of the games industry today.
