Fake TTE arrested on tip-off by passenger

Ludhiana: A man posing as a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) was apprehended at Ludhiana railway station . He was caught by the ticket-checking team while he was collecting money from passengers on the Amritsar-Katihar Express (train number 15707). He was handed over to assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sajjan Singh of the government railway police (GRP).

The imposter was caught after a passenger in the first general coach alerted TTI Dinesh Kumar about him. Acting quickly on the tip-off, TTI Dinesh Kumar, along with TTI Manoj Chauhan, CCTC Gurpreet Singh, and TTI Om Raj (HQ Amritsar), proceeded to the general coach accompanied by GRP personnel. They found the fake TTE actively checking passengers’ tickets and collecting money, said a spokesperson of the railways.



He said that after searching the impostor, the team recovered Rs 600 that he had extorted from a passenger. Later, the amount was returned to the passenger. Swift response by the ticket-checking staff received praise from passengers.

Senior divisional commercial manager Paramdeep Singh Saini said that an appreciation certificate will be given to the ticket-checking team to recognise their commendable work. A spokesperson said the aim of giving an appreciation certificate is to encourage other staff members.
