FAIRFIELD — The City Council approved naming a street after the late Mary Louise Marsh at Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Catherine Moy was ill. Councilman Doug Carr was at a conference.

Marsh was born 1932, in Selma, Alabama, and died on Feb. 22, 2023. She worked at Vanden High School for 17 years before retiring in 1997.

Her community activities included serving on the Solano County civil grand jury, Juvenile Justice commissioner and the Assist-A-Grad Scholarship Foundation. She established the Marsh Family Scholarship for high school seniors and was the grand marshal of the Fairfield Fourth of July Parade. The request was made by her son Reginald Marsh.

Former Councilman Rick Vaccaro wrote a letter supporting the idea. He noted he worked with her for more than 30 years and the two became fast friends. New Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee members were sworn in.

Their term expires on Dec. 31, 2028. They are Verna Brooks, Elaine Clark, DeAndre Richard, Harriet Stricklen and Tina Werblin.

LeTroi Smith was named to the Landscape Oversight Committee. His term expires April 1, 2030. Three new youth commissioners also took their oath of office.

Their terms will expire on Dec. 31, 2026. They are Lauren Dimaisip, Ariel He-Wang and Cian Wilson.

The council also approved an amendment to a memorandum between the city of Fairfield and the city of Benicia for cost-sharing of the Lopes Road and water pipeline reconstruction project. The project may not get underway until 2026, said Jason Riley, assistant city engineer..
