In today’s Fact or Fiction I look at three big recent topics in college football and decide whether the statement is indeed FACT or if it’s FICTION . 1. Illinois is a problem in the Big Ten.

Farrell’s take: FICTION I like Bret Bielema and Illinois and their 4-0 start is exciting but let’s pump the brakes. Kansas has looked bad, Nebraska clearly isn’t ready and Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State are head and shoulders above the rest of the conference. The schedule isn’t bad avoiding the Buckeyes and USC and 8-4 is possible but I don’t think this is a Big Ten title contender.

2. Utah wins the Big 12. Farrell’s take: FACT I didn’t like what I saw from Kansas State at all against BYU and Utah won a massive game without Cam Rising over Oklahoma State.

They’ve struggled in the past without Rising but the defense stepped up in a big way and should carry them. And Rising will be back soon so they are the favorite. © SARAH PHIPPS/THE OKLAHOMAN / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 3.

Duke is the best ACC team in North Carolina. Farrell’s take: FACT NC State is a farce, UNC has regressed on defense and Wake Forest isn’t ready for the big time so Duke gets the nod. Mike Elko left some talent there and Manny Diaz is doing a great job.

Maalik Murphy is finally getting his chance and making the most of it. Duke has a chance to sweep the other three this season on their schedule..
