He achieved notable success in 1961 by winning the Formula Junior title in a Lotus 20, which set the stage for his future accomplishments. His professional racing journey included a stint with the works Lotus team in 1962 and participation in Formula 2 from 1964 to 1968, where he competed alongside future F1 champion Jochen Rindt. Rees's most memorable moments in Formula 1 came during the 1967 season, where he finished seventh at the German Grand Prix and ninth at Silverstone, marking his only World Championship race.
