'Eyesore' Coventry flats demolished after years of 'anti-social behaviour'

An 'eyesore' Coventry block of flats that has been plagued by anti-social behaviour for more than a decade has been demolished. Jasmine Court has been bulldozed by Coventry City Council . Councillors say they have spent years trying to demolish the empty block of low-rise flats at 1 to 15 Jasmine Court in Stoke Aldermoor .

Fencing has been placed around the rubble, which will be removed in the coming weeks as the site is cleared for redevelopment, Cllr Naeem Akhtar said. It follows a long period of legal efforts by Coventry City Council . Officials say they are increasing efforts to tackle issues around empty properties in the city with good-quality housing said to be in 'high demand.

We are hopeful that eventually suitable social housing, providing family homes, will replace the demolished flats.

” Cllr Abdul Khan, Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council , added: “I know that a number of Coventry City Council services have been working hard to remove this property. “Often, a number of legal steps need to be addressed to deal with housing that has been left empty and in poor disrepair, and I am pleased to see a positive outcome for people living around Jasmine Court.” Sign up for our FREE daily newsletter here for all the latest news about Coventry .
