Externed criminal fatally pushed into quarry, 2 held

Pune: A criminal (18) on police records and his accomplice were arrested on the charge of murdering a 21-year-old externed criminal by pushing the latter into a 40 feet deep quarry near Dehu Road in the early hours of Friday. The externed criminal had come to Dehu Road to attend the funeral of one of his relatives. The Pimpri Chinchwad police swung into action and arrested the prime suspect (the criminal) with his accomplice.

A search is on for the third suspect. "The duo killed the victim because he had a relationship with the sister of the criminal on the police records. The suspect was against this relationship," assistant commissioner of police (Dehu Road division) Devidas Gheware told TOI.



He said the deceased, Ajay Joginder Lukkad (21) of Dehu Road, had cases of illegal possession of drugs, body offences and under the POCSO Act. He was externed in April. He has been staying in Mumbai since then.

Gheware said the deceased on Thursday left Mumbai to attend the funeral of his sister-in-law. "The suspect knew that the victim would be coming to Dehu Road. He contacted the victim and called the latter near the quarry, close to Dehu Road, for a meeting.

When the victim went there, the suspect and his two accomplices pushed him into the quarry," he said. "The victim's relatives came to know about the incident in the morning and informed the police. We have arrested the main suspect and his accomplice.

A case has been registered with the Dehu Road police," Gheware said..
