Officers conducted a search of the area following the explosion, collecting evidence and looking for leads. It remains unclear whether a single individual or multiple people were involved in the incident. The Drents Museum is currently hosting a major archaeological exhibition titled (Dacia - Realm of Gold and Silver).

The display features more than 50 gold and silver treasures from the ancient kingdom of Dacia, located in present-day Romania, dating from the 20th century BCE to the 3rd century CE. Police have not indicated whether the artifacts on display were targeted during the suspected burglary attempt. Authorities continue to investigate and have called on anyone with information to assist in identifying those responsible.
