Launched in 2018 by Niti Aayog, #AIFORALL focuses on inclusive AI development across sectors such as healthcare and education, high-quality datasets and legislative frameworks for data protection and cybersecurity. It was introduced in February 2021 and developed principles based on the National AI Strategy focused on ethical considerations within AI implementation, including decision-making, accountability, and the societal impact of automation on jobs. In August 2021, NITI Aayog released the second edition of the Principles for Responsible AI-the practice set for the implementation of responsible guidelines for ethics in action.
This underlines government-public collaboration and cooperation with private sectors, and research organizations to ensure responsible AI and ethical practices. The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 came into force on August 11, 2023 this has regulated the processing of digital personal data in India as well as concerned by AI privacy. The Information Technology Rules, 2021 are the social media and digital media rules which have come into effect on May 26, 2021, and have been updated on April 2023.
The draft National Data Governance Framework Policy, which was published on May 26, 2022, would help in improving the data governance of the government besides providing support to AI start-ups. The ministry established committees on AI safety and ethics and the Bureau of Indian Standards is in the process of framing draft Indian standards for AI. While none of the rules particularly regulate Deepfakes in India, the law provisions in place would provide a legal recourse for Deepfakes that are misleading reputations.
In March 2024, MeitY issued a new advisory addressing due diligence obligations for intermediaries, highlighting their neglect of responsibilities under IT Rules 2021. 5. Development and Deployment of LLMs This section outlines the essential elements involved in the development and deployment of Large Language Models (LLMs).
