Ludhiana: An inquiry has been launched at the subdivisional hospital in Samrala after a large stock of expired medicines was discovered during an inspection by Punjab legislator Jagtar Singh Dayalpura . The hospital authorities have formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter. The hospital’s senior medical officer (SMO), Dr Tarikjot Singh, confirmed the formation of the committee, consisting of senior doctors and a staff nurse.

He admitted that a lack of staff contributed to the oversight, resulting in expired medicines accumulating in the hospital’s storage. According to sources, the hospital had been operating with insufficient staff to manage the medicine supply. Some pharmacists were on deputation or long leave, leaving the hospital understaffed.

MLA Dayalpura, who broke the lock to access the medicine store, expressed concern that expired medicines, some dating back to 2022, were still present.
