An exhibition inspired by a mural of musical legends is set to open in Brighton. The exhibition, named "Rewriting the Walls: Celebrating Women who Break the Mould," was sparked by the mural on the side of the Prince Albert pub, which features 41 men and 3.5 women.
The exhibition aims to highlight the achievements of women in male-dominated industries, including firefighters, pilots, scientists, engineers, and film directors. It will be open from 12pm to 5pm, from Wednesday to Sunday.
Admission is free. The exhibition will feature a reimagining of vintage advertisements, which "once confined women to kitchens and corsets," and transform them into tributes to the women who defied these expectations. Jude Kelly CBE - Founder and CEO of The WOW, Women of the World Foundation (Image: Clare Newton FRSA) The exhibition aims to "reclaim a piece of history" and celebrate women who have excelled in male-dominated fields.
The artist behind the exhibition said: "Through my art, I want to bring these stories to life—to give them the visibility they deserve and ensure their legacies are not just remembered but revered. "Women have always been at the forefront of change—pioneers, leaders, creators, revolutionaries. "Yet too often, their names have been erased or diminished.
"It’s time to change that. "It’s time to honour their brilliance, their courage, and their undeniable impact on the world." The exhibition is not just about art, but about "rewriting the stories we tell and who we choose to celebrate.
