Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh exclusively spoke with Bollywood Hungama on how the first quarter of 2025 was for Bollywood. He described it saying, “Whenever a new year begins, you hope for it to be better than the previous year or the year before that. Last year was very good. There was Stree 2 and Pushpa 2, of course. All these films did amazing business at the box. So, there were hopes that 2025 would also be the same. Unfortunately, firstly, the quantity of the films was very less this year and the quality was weak too. So, obviously, when your roots are weak, the structure won’t be able to stand on it.”During the conversation, Adarsh was asked to describe the first quarter of 2025 in one word. “Heartbreaking,” he said. “There was Chhaava. I am not denying that it did zabardast business. It was a great film. I liked it a lot. I also liked Sky Force a lot. But the kind of business that should have happened, didn’t happen. Yes, there was Chhaava. But when you get one blockbuster, there is a dry period that follows where you don’t see films releasing. When films don’t release on important dates, you feel something is seriously wrong.”Sharing the reason for the disappointing year so far, Adarsh said, “I think somewhere it is the film industry’s contribution in this entire mess. We are either making metro-centric films or re-releasing old films. Or we are making proposals like this territory will be sold for this much, overseas for this much, digital rights will bring this much money, etc. This is creating losses. While making ‘projects’, you are forgetting the soul of a film. And that’s the biggest problem today.”However, Adarsh was also optimistic about the future. “I also believe that no matter how dark the night is; the dawn will arrive. We can hope that in the coming time, we will see better days. Achhe din aayenge,” he said. Also Read: EXCLUSIVE: Taran Adarsh criticizes Salman Khan’s Sikandar; says, “Sikandar se bohat umeedein thi.
